“Would you talk to you at a cocktail party?” is a question Sean Leenaerts often asks clients when discussing brand messaging. At Moiré, Sean works with clients to develop brand identities, messaging and integrated marketing approaches that give them a unique, compelling voice in their respective markets. He also oversees copywriting to ensure that both the tone and messaging are consistent across all marketing platforms for our clients.

Sean brings to Moiré over 20 years of experience in creative and brand strategy for a broad range of clients in professional services, finance, technology, e-commerce, healthcare, and real estate. His work crosses all mediums and has won awards from the National Agricultural Marketing Association (NAMA), American Bankers Association (ABA), Medical Marketing & Media and Legal Marketing Association (LMA). On the creative side, Sean has also won ADDYs, Effies (for effective advertising), Pollies (for political advertising) and creative awards from the Art Directors Club of Denver, the Denver Ad Club, the Minneapolis Ad Show, Communications Arts and Graphic Design USA.

Sean started his career at DDB Needham/Chicago (now DDB Chicago) as a copywriter, working on a wide variety of consumer brands. After a few years of agency success, he set out on his own as a marketing consultant to financial institutions (First Chicago Bank, LaSalle National Bank, Capital One and Chase), as well as corporations in the U.S., Asia and Europe.

In 1994, Sean was lured back to agency life, taking a senior position at Cramer-Krasselt where he led teams in developing brand messaging for financial clients such as Nuveen Investments, Chicago Trust and LaSalle National Bank. And as owner of a marketing firm in Denver, his clients included businesses in the technology, e-commerce and real estate industries.

Sean received his BA in Journalism and a BA in English from Marquette University. He volunteers his time with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and as a triathlon coach for at-risk youth through Achieve DC.

Outside of Moire, Sean likes to keep moving. He is an avid triathlete with 17 Ironmans, 200+ triathlons and 8 ultra-marathons under his belt, and holds coaching certifications from USA Triathlon and USA Cycling.
